Douglas Shierson was a family man who married his high school sweetheart from a small town in Michigan. He stayed in state and attended the University of Michigan as an art history major. In addition to art, Douglas Shierson loved racing and was a race car driver until injured. He then ran his own team -The Douglas Shierson Racing Team- which saw victory during the 1990 Indianapolis 500. He was diagnosed with Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia and spent his last years living happily on Lake Norman, in Charlotte North Carolina.
